How to Keep that Diamond Ring Sparkling

March 27th, 2009

Receiving a diamond ring is always special no matter if it is an engagement ring or a gift from someone you love. We cherish these gifts and want them to continue to shine and look as good as the day we received them. The best way to keep your ring clean and sparkling is to take it to a jeweler and have it professional cleaned. Most jewelers provide this service for free, but it is not always convenient and you may be short on time. A quick and easy way to keep the brilliance of your gold or white gold diamond ring, as these are becoming more and more prevalent, is to soak the diamond ring in a small container of warm water and a mild dish washing detergent, like Ivory. After about 10 minutes brush the ring gently with a very soft toothbrush in circular motions. The softest brush should be used so as not to scratch the jewelry. Rinse the ring with warm water and dry it with a lint free cloth. Some individuals will then soak their ring in a window cleaner for an extra shimmer. Do not use any abrasive pastes or chemicals to clean your jewelry. If you are a more contemporary individual, having a yellow or blue diamond ring and making sure the color flashes with sparkle is very important. Keeping your gold and white gold jewelry looking their best helps you to remember that special day and person you accepted from.

Switching to Satellite TV Before the Deadline

February 4th, 2009

Lawmakers say about 20 million U.S. households are not ready for the switch from over-the-air signals to digital. The last TV purchased in our home was in 1999 and it seems pretty old to me, so I wondered if the conversion to digital TV would affect me as I had procrastinated switching before the first deadline. Luckily for me, the senate delayed the deadline to give consumers more time to either buy a digital TV or a converter box. I did not know this, but they also had $40 coupons available to offset the converter price. Subscribing to a cable or satellite television service will also make it possible to view TV. In an effort to limit TV watching and what our children watch we had not gotten more than the local stations from a roof antenna. This led to a comparison and TV deal search.

The best source to find deals is on the internet. The TV cable company here went out of business, so comparison shopping was left between the Dish Network store and Direct TV. The better deal found was for Dish as they had a plan ten dollars less and Direct could not provide local channels to our town. I was able to select the programming channel package I wanted online and they called to set up the Dish installation the very same day.

Our home is now satellite TV ready and even before the June deadline
